Aker Exploration (AkX) was established 2Q2006 and is part of the Aker Group, a strong Norwegian industrial group with roots back in 1840.

AkX is an exploration company, focusing in northern part of the North Sea, Norwegian Sea and Barents Sea on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).

The business model is based on trading rig capacity for exploration drilling with equity share in licenses on NCS. AkX can also take a cost carry element as part of a transactions.

AkX is pre-qualified as an oil company on NCS in November 2006. Further, AkX has secured a 5 year contract with a 6th generation rig commencing 4Q2008. Also, sufficient financial strength has been secured early December 2006.

The first farm-in agreement was signed late December 2006. AkX has also been awarded a 15 percent ownership interest in Block 31/8 in the northern North Sea in the APA 2006 (Awards in Predefined Areas).
